Under section 38 of the Victorian Independent Remuneration Tribunal and Improving Parliamentary Standards Act 2019 (Vic) (VIRTIPS Act), the Tribunal may undertake reviews and publish reports. These may be about any matter relating to the remuneration and allowances of:
- Members of Parliament of Victoria (MPs)
- executives employed in prescribed public entities and in public service bodies (public sector executives)
- Mayors, Deputy Mayors and Councillors — including Council allowance categories.
The Tribunal’s responsible Minister may also request that it provides advice on topics including the remuneration or funding provided to MPs or public sector executives.
The Minister administering the Local Government Act 2020 (Vic), in consultation with the responsible Minister, may request the Tribunal to provide advice on any matters relating the allowances payable to Mayors, Deputy Mayors and Councillors.
